Program Note by the Composer

Prayer and Celebration for chamber orchestra, commissioned by Saint Paul's School on the occasion of their Sesquicentennial, was funded by the Roger S. Firestone Foundation.

In two contrasting movements, the work lasts seven minutes. Prayer is an intimate and resonant "song" which celebrates lyric, prayerful lines and warm harmonies.  Celebration is majestic, shimmering, and vibrant.  Celebration features two solo violins and requires members of the orchestra to also play bells, crotales, finger cymbals, and triangles.  Movements can be played together or separately, and in either order.
